Authorities say a body has been found in a shallow grave next to a parking lot on the campus of Sonoma State University in Northern California.
The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office says its homicide detectives are investigating the body found on the campus about 50 miles north of San Francisco on Wednesday.
University police say a campus employee found the grave in an area of rugged brush near the parking lot. The area is on the corner of campus near Green Music Center, home to two large music halls.
Authorities gave no further details on the body or the investigation.
Caitlyn Burns, a 20-year-old music major, told the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat she was "shocked, surprised and scared" when she heard about the body. She said such things are extremely rare on the campus or in the surrounding town of Rohnert Park.
