Former Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane has been released from a county jail on bail after serving about two hours of a sentence for leaking grand jury documents and then lying about it under oath.

The one-term Democrat was sentenced on Monday to 10 to 23 months in jail in the perjury and obstruction case.

Montgomery County Judge Wendy Demchick-Alloy says Kane's ego drove her to break the law as she sought to retaliate against "perceived enemies."

The once-rising star in the state's Democratic Party was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs.

She had asked for probation or house arrest so she could raise her two sons.

She plans to appeal.

The 50-year-old Kane had been an assistant prosecutor in her native Scranton before her 2012 run for statewide office.
