A Cape Cod town has closed three beaches after great white sharks were seen feasting on a small whale carcass.

The Cape Cod Times reports that Truro officials announced Friday that the Noons Landing, Cold Storage and Beach Point beaches will be closed until Sunday.

The Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown says the whale carcass was reported Wednesday in Cape Cod Bay off North Truro. Researchers found an 11-foot-long female minke whale with its carcass appearing in good condition.

Researchers say that by Thursday, the carcass was battered and at least two great white sharks had fed on it. The center posted a YouTube video of a shark swimming around the carcass.

The remains of what appeared to be the same whale washed up on Beach Point on Friday.
