HOLMDEL, N.J. – State Police have released the names of two people killed when a van overturned on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey, injuring 14 others.
Thirty-year-old Irvington resident Charles Derosier and 56-year-old Esperanza Guardado-Quintani, of Elizabeth, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident happened around 6:45 p.m. Friday in a northbound express lane near Exit 117 in Holmdel, Monmouth County.
Four people suffered serious injuries in the crash and were flown to a hospital. The other eight were treated for undisclosed injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
State police say the vehicle hit a guardrail and a cement support structure before it flipped over. The accident and the subsequent investigation forced authorities to close the highway's left two northbound express lanes for about four hours.
