BOSTON – Two New England men already being held on charges they conspired to help the Islamic State group are facing additional terrorism charges.
Nicholas Rovinski (roh-VIN'-skee), of Warwick, Rhode Island, and David Wright, of Everett, Massachusetts, were charged Thursday with conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries.
They pleaded not guilty last year to conspiring to provide material support to a terrorist organization. Lawyers for them haven't returned messages seeking comment on the new charges.
Prosecutors allege the two plotted with Wright's uncle Usaamah Rahim to behead a conservative blogger known for provoking Muslims. The plot was not carried out.
Thursday's indictment says Islamic State recruiter Junaid Hussain communicated instructions about the plot directly to Rahim.
Hussain was killed in a drone strike. Rahim was killed by investigators.
