Gutsy cow bolts from slaughterhouse, goes to college

A cow escaped from a slaughterhouse and hoofed it to a college campus in Queens — where she sparked a rodeo-style ruckus Friday, students said.

The brave bovine made a break for it, barreling onto a grassy field at York College on Liberty Avenue and 160th in Jamaica at around 10 am, witnesses said.

“She was trying to reclaim her freedom! She was probably thinking, ‘They’re gonna kill me,'” said Renee Howard, a 51-year-old Jamaica resident.

The four-legged runaway stunned passersby who stopped to stare and take video of the wild scene.

“I just got off the train and was headed home when I saw kids running and yelling, ‘There is a cow!’ [She] ran right passed us,” Howard said.

But she wasn’t on the moo-ve for long. The cow — which looked angry as she kicked up dust on campus — was wrangled by cops with rope after about an hour, students said.

” They were trying to rope him down. It took them about an hour to finally get him down,” Lamart Cobb, 28, Jamaica resident.

Some students had beef with the slaughterhouse for allowing the cow to bolt, Cobb said.

“They should have people who know how to deal with the animals so there is safe delivery and they are secured and tied up so they don’t get out. This isn’t the zoo,” Cobb griped.

Other bovine escapees have bolted through the area in the past, Howard said.

“I just thought, ‘another damn cow is loose!'” she said.
