A friend reported the boy missing Sunday after he jumped from a 15-foot cliff and did not resurface, khon2.com reported.
The teenager was last seen wearing a black shirt and tan shorts. Authorities said he had been jumping with friends off of Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area on Hawaii's Big Island.
The Coast Guard was notified at 10:21 a.m. Sunday and has been conducting joint searches with emergency responders, according to the station. Air searches with an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew are also under way.
