One person has died after a small plane carrying a French tour group crashed in the northern Arizona town of Page Saturday afternoon.

Page Police told MyFoxPhoenix.com that the plane was approaching the town's airport from the north at the time of the crash. Page Police Capt. Ray Varner told The Associated Press the single-engine plane was carrying seven people when it hit the ground and flipped over in windy conditions.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor told the AP that the Cessna 207 crashed 400 to 500 feet short of the tarmac.

Varner said the plane was carrying seven people, one of whom died after being rushed to a hospital. A second person was hospitalized in apparently stable condition. Four others received hospital treatment for minor injuries and were released, while the seventh person was unhurt.

The cause of the crash was under investigation and authorities have not released the name of the victim.

According to the FAA’s website, the plane is owned by American Aviation, Inc. out of Salt Lake City, Utah. The American Aviation website says they give scenic tour flights over Lake Powell, the Colorado River, Horseshoe Bend, and Wahweap Marina.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
