EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. – More than 1,000 people have been evacuated due to a fire at a technical center building on the grounds of Atlantic City International Airport.
The fire was in one of the buildings comprising the Federal Aviation Administration's William J. Hughes Technical Center. No injuries have been reported.
Witnesses tell The Press of Atlantic City they heard alarms followed by several explosions.
The FAA says about 1,600 people had to be evacuated from two buildings at the center. The FAA says an adjacent runway was shut down temporarily, but has reopened.
The cause of the fire, which began around 12:10 p.m., was not immediately known. The bulk of the fire had been extinguished as of 2:30 p.m.
