OAKLAND, Calif. -- A one-year-old boy was in critical condition Tuesday after he and seven other victims were wounded in a shooting incident in Oakland, Calif.

The shooting occurred just after 6:00 p.m. local time at a liquor store parking lot in the 700 block of Willow Street in West Oakland, the Oakland Tribune reported.

A van at the scene was riddled with bullets. It was not known if the victims were in the vehicle or nearby at the time.

Police said that the shooting occurred while a music video was being taped in the parking lot, and that Oakland hip-hop artist Kafani was at the scene.

The rapper, who was not among those shot, denied the report late Monday. "I did not shoot a video today," Kafani posted on Twitter.

Police who arrived found that all the victims had been taken to the hospital by private transportation, with officers reporting there was blood and up to 50 shell casings on the street, KTVU reported.

"When officers arrived on scene they learned that eight victims had been transported to local hospitals suffering from apparent gunshot wounds," Oakland Police Officer Johnna Watson said in a statement.

"One of the victims is reported to be a one-year-old child," Watson said.

The infant was in critical condition at Children's Hospital Oakland after undergoing surgery for a bullet wound to the head. An adult woman was also in critical condition. The other victims were in stable condition, police said.

Kafani identified the infant as the son of local musician Hi Rolla. "send y'all prayers to @hirolla900_bfa its his son who was shot," he posted on Twitter.

Hi Rolla posted a tweet Monday announcing a "video shoot in the AM."

No one has yet been arrested in connection with the shooting and the motive was not immediately known.

Detectives were seeking a man in his thirties and three teenagers, all of whom were seen fleeing the scene in a dark-colored Buick, the Tribune said.
