SCOTTSDALE – A Scottsdale man is facing endangerment charges after allegedly leaving his 6-year-old autistic son in the car in a parking lot to go to a bar to visit his girlfriend.
30-year-old Kenny Keene was arrested on Oct. 21 outside a Scottsdale bar and night club after officers responded to a call stating that a child was sleeping in the back seat of a car.
Keene told Scottsdale police he's taking care of his son as a single father, and that the mother is on drugs and lives out of state.
According to police documents, another bar patron or passer-by saw the boy inside and watched the car for 20 minutes. During that time, nobody had come out to check on the child, so that person called police.
It wasn't hot outside -- the arrest took place after 9 at night -- but the windows were cracked with enough space "sufficient for someone with an average sized arm to reach into the vehicle."
Keene told police he was supporting his girlfriend, who was promoting a concert at the club, and that he'd had a couple of beers -- but he also stated he'd been checking on his son every few minutes. The boy is reportedly now staying with his grandmother.
