PHOENIX -- Airport officials say a Southwest Airlines jetliner carrying 139 people has made a safe emergency landing in Phoenix after one of its engines failed.
Sky Harbor International Airport communications center supervisor Kris Commerford says the Boeing 737 landed without incident at 9:33 p.m. Thursday and taxied to the gate under its own power. No one was injured.
She says Southwest Flight 427 was en route from El Paso, Texas, to Phoenix when it reported that one of its two engines was out.
Fire crews were on stand-by as the aircraft set down safely.
Commerford didn't have details on the cause of the engine problem.
Southwest didn't immediately respond to a call for comment.
