Expecting Apple to go all-in on OLED for its fall iPhone lineup? Don't bank on it—a new report from The Wall Street Journal indicates that Cupertino isn't planning to phase out LCD screens any time soon.

The Journal reports that Apple plans to release three new iPhones this fall—two with pricey OLED screens like those found on the iPhone X , and a more affordable LCD model. IHS Analyst Jusy Hong reportedly says all three will look like the iPhone X.

"Apple expects LCD models to make up the majority of iPhone sales in its lineup to be released this fall," the report notes. The company "initially wanted roughly equal production of the two screen types. Now, … Apple plans to make more of the LCD model, anticipating that consumers would lean toward the cheaper model."

Word has it Apple plans to offer at least one affordable LCD model in 2019, too. The company likely won't ditch LCD screens and go all-OLED until 2020.

PCMag's Lead Mobile Analyst Sascha Segan said the iPhone X's OLED screen "is very carefully color balanced to look as much like Apple's previous LCDs as possible." Still, "blacks are blacker, and colors are just a touch more saturated than on the iPhone 8 Plus."

The iPhone X earned an "excellent" rating in PCMag's review, though its price gave us pause. "No matter how exciting it is, I don't believe any phone is worth the $999 to $1,149 Apple is selling it for," Segan wrote.
