Amazon's digital assistant Alexa is branching out.
Alexa is rolling out to the free Amazon shopping app for iPhone users in the US. With this new integration, you'll be able to use Alexa wherever you are to access thousands of skills, control your smart home devices, get answers to your pressing questions, and a lot more — all with your voice.
To try it out, press the microphone icon in the Amazon shopping app and ask Alexa to play music, tell jokes, report the weather, read a Kindle book, search for products, or track an order. The Amazon shopping app already lets you search for products using your voice, but the new Alexa integration "goes far beyond search," Amazon said.
For instance, you can say "set my thermostat to 72 degrees" to make sure your house is cozy when you get home, then tell Alexa to "turn on my porch light" when you're almost there, so you won't have to fumble with your keys in the dark. Or, just tap the microphone and say "play music" to jam out while you shop. You can also reorder everyday items with a simple command like "order toilet paper," then track your packages by saying "where's my stuff?"

If you don't see Alexa in the Amazon Shopping app right away, sit tight: Amazon said it should reach all users by next week.
Meanwhile, developers have also been integrating Amazon's digital assistant into their products via Alexa Voice Service. The Nucleus smart home intercom, JAM Voice portable speaker system, and Logitech ZeroTouch smartphone car mount are a few Alexa-enabled gadgets that launched in 2016, and Amazon said several other companies, including LG, Huawei, and Ford plan to release new products taking advantage of this functionality this year.
