Terrorism is the use of violence to achieve political, religious or ideological goals, often targeting civilians to spread fear. Some designated terrorist groups include al Qaeda, ISIS, Hamas terror group, the Houthis, Hezbollah and Boko Haram. Many of these groups are responsible for past terror attacks, including the September 11, 2001 attacks on the U.S., the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, the 2004 Madrid train bombings and the 2015 Paris attacks. These events have led to increased global security measures and counterterrorism efforts.
Governments and international organizations combat terrorism through intelligence operations, military action and law enforcement. Despite these efforts, terrorism remains a significant global threat driven by political, economic and ideological factors.
While progress has been made in disrupting terrorist networks, the complex nature of the issue requires nations to band together in strength against the common threat.
