Injuries spur Giants to sign TE Will Tye from practice squad

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - The New York Giants have signed tight end Will Tye off their practice squad, a move necessitated by injuries.

The team announced the move Saturday. To make room on their roster, the Giants terminated defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis' contract.

Tye, who played collegiately at Stony Brook, was originally signed as a rookie free agent May 11. He was waived Sept. 1 and signed to the practice squad six days later.

Larry Donnell and Tye will be the available tight ends Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

Two other Giants' tight ends, Daniel Fells and Jerome Cunningham, did not travel with the team to Buffalo.

Fells caught three passes in the Giants' victory over Washington last week, but will miss the game Sunday because of an ankle injury. Cunningham will miss his second straight game with a knee injury.

Ellis was waived by the Giants at the end of training camp and was re-signed Sept. 22. He was in uniform for the Washington game but did not play.

Besides Fells and Cunningham, three other Giants did not travel to Buffalo: wide receiver Victor Cruz (calf), defensive end Robert Ayers (hamstring) and defensive tackle Markus Kuhn (knee).
