Stuttgart edges Eintracht in nine-goal thriller

Frankfurt, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Christian Gentner's goal in the 84th minute helped Stuttgart capture a 5-4 win at Eintracht on Saturday in a thrilling offensive display from both sides.

Gentner and Martin Harnik scored two goals apiece for Stuttgart, while Eintracht's Alexander Madlung also found the net twice as the two sides combined to score six times in the final 40 minutes of the match.

Madlung struck first for the home side after 21 minutes, but Harnik answered for Stuttgart by scoring twice in the span of three minutes before the break to put the visitors ahead, 2-1.

The lead was stretched to 3-1 shortly after the break when Gentner found the net for the first time after exchanging passes with Alexandru Maxim.

But Eintracht put together a furious rally that saw the club score three times in the span of nine minutes to take a 4-3 lead with 25 minutes to play.

Alexander Meier scored in the 57th with a ball off his knee, while Stefan Aigner equalized in the 61st after a long ball from Aleksandar Ignjovski.

Madlung then headed Eintracht in front in the 66th from Marc Stendera's free kick, and it looked like the hosts had completed a fantastic turnaround.

But the final 10 minutes had more drama as Stuttgart was back on level terms through a nice individual effort from Timo Werner.

And just two minutes later, Gentner fired home the winner from close range after pouncing on a rebound, while Eintracht finished the game with 10 men after Haris Seferovic picked up a second yellow card.

Borussia Dortmund's miserable start to the Bundesliga campaign got worse on Saturday as the club lost for the sixth time in nine games, dropping a 1-0 decision to Hannover on a second-half goal from Hiroshi Kiyotake.

Hoffenheim moved into second place after a 1-0 win over Paderborn behind Kevin Volland's second-half tally, Anis Ben-Hatira scored twice after halftime to lead Hertha Berlin to a 3-0 win over Hamburg, Freiburg is still searching for its first win after losing 2-0 at Augsburg, while Hakan Calhanoglu's 53rd- minute goal was enough for Bayer Leverkusen to claim a 1-0 win over Schalke.
