Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Andrew McCutchen drove in the winning run as the Pittsburgh Pirates capped a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies with a 5-3 victory on Sunday.
Neil Walker went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored, while Jordy Mercer drove in a pair of runs for the Pirates, who have won five of their last seven games.
Jeff Locke gave up three runs on seven hits over six innings of work, while Jeanmar Gomez (2-2) got the win for working a scoreless seventh.
Josh Rutledge hit a two-run home run and Michael McKenry gave a solo shot for the Rockies, who have dropped their past five games.
Tyler Matzek tossed six innings and allowed three runs on seven hits, and Matt Belisle (2-6) was handed the loss for getting charged with two runs.
In the seventh, Josh Harrison walked to start the frame, stole second and came home on McCutchen's single. McCutchen was later caught stealing, but Walker made it a two-run game with his 14th home run of the season.
Tony Watson tossed a 1-2-3 eighth, while Mark Melancon did the same in the ninth for his 18th save of the year.
The Rockies grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning as Brandon Barnes led off with a walk and Rutledge followed with his third home run of the year.
McKenry led off the second with his second homer of the year for a 3-0 lead.
Pittsburgh answered in the home half of the second. Gaby Sanchez led off with a single and moved to third on a Walker single. Walker wound up at second on the play as Sanchez beat out a throw to third, and Mercer chased them both home with a single to center to make it a 3-2 game.
After Pedro Alvarez flied out, Chris Stewart ripped a grounder down the left field line. The ball got stuck underneath the padding in foul territory as Mercer came home to score on the double, but the umpires ruled it a ground- rule double to leave runners at second and third. Locke struck out and Gregory Polanco grounded out to end the frame.
The Pirates tied the game in the sixth on Stewart's ground-rule double that scored Mercer.
