Oxford, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - Sikes Orvis' two-out triple in the top of the 10th inning knocked in the go-ahead run and enabled Mississippi to capture the Oxford Regional of the NCAA Baseball Tournament with a 3-2 win over Washington.
Orvis' deciding hit off Trevor Dunlap followed a walk to Will Allen by losing pitcher Alex Nesbitt that extended the inning for the top-seeded Rebels. Scott Weathersby issued a one-out walk in the Huskies' half of the frame, but retired the next two batters to allow Ole Miss to advance to the Super Regional, where the Rebels will face No. 6 national seed Louisiana- Lafayette.
Weathersby yielded just two hits and a pair of walks while striking out six over 5 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Sam Smith.
The second-seeded Huskies would have forced a winner-take-all matchup between the teams with a victory.
Colby Bortles gave Ole Miss a 1-0 lead with a home run off Washington starter Will Ballowe in the second inning, but the Huskies tied it when Erik Forgione reached on an error in the third and later crossed the plate on Branden Berry's single.
Forgione was aboard on another error in the fifth and came around on a Brian Wolfe sacrifice fly to put Washington ahead. Bortles doubled home Allen in the sixth, however, to knot the score at 2-2.
The teams then waited out a rain delay of 111 minutes in the top of the seventh with the contest still tied.
