Tokyo, Japan (SportsNetwork.com) - Czech Republic's Lukas Rosol defeated Japan's Yasutaka Uchiyama 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 as part of the final leg in the Davis Cup quarterfinals.
In the other matchup, Jiri Vesely beat Taro Daniel in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
On Saturday, the Czech Republic punched its ticket to a semifinal matchup between the winner of France-Germany when Czech duo of Radek Stepanek and Rosol took down the Japanese pair of Tatsuma Ito and Uchiyama, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
On Friday, Stepanek earned the first point with a 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, 7-5 victory over Ito before Rosol fought off a late charge from Daniel and claimed a 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-2 in the best-of-five matchup.
The Czech Republic is the two-time reigning Davis Cup champs.
The former Czechoslovakia beat Japan in 1935 and the Japanese topped the Czechs in their first-ever clash way back in 1930.
