Port St. Lucie, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Mets released pitcher Kyle Farnsworth Sunday after the veteran reliever failed to make the club during spring training.

Farnsworth, signed to a minor league contract in early February, allowed five runs and 10 hits while issuing four walks in eight innings over seven Grapefruit League appearances with the Mets.

The 37-year-old pitched for Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh last season, compiling a 3-1 record with a 4.70 earned run average and two saves over a combined 48 games.
