Edinburgh, Scotland – Leigh Griffiths' goal in the ninth minute was enough for Hibernian to post a 1-0 win over Celtic at Easter Road Stadium on Saturday.
The goal is the 14th of the season for Griffiths, who tracked down a long ball from Paul Hanlon before rounding goalkeeper Fraser Forster and rolling the ball into the net from a tight angle.
From there, Celtic controlled much of the play but was denied by a stubborn Hibernian defense, including some good play by goalkeeper Ben Williams.
The final 15 minutes saw Celtic heap pressure on the home side, but Williams produced saves on Paddy McCourt and Gary Hooper before preserving the win with another stop, this time on substitute Baram Kayal.
Second-place Inverness had the chance to cut into Celtic's lead at the top of the league, but the club could only manage a 0-0 draw at St Johnstone, leaving them six points adrift of the defending champions.
Aberdeen claimed a 3-1 win at last-place Dundee behind three goals from Niall McGinn, while Motherwell missed out on an opportunity to climb into second place after being held to a 2-2 draw at home by Kilmarnock.
Killie took a 2-0 lead into the final 25 minutes with goals from Borja Perez and Paul Heffernan, but the Steelmen tallied with two goals in the span of four minutes as Jamie Murphy and Henrik Ojamaa each scored to help Motherwell to a share of the points.
