Dyson, Nirat share lead at suspended Singapore Open

Singapore – For the second straight day rain and lightning suspended play at the Singapore Open.

Simon Dyson and Chapchai Nirat shared the second-round lead at 6-under-par on Friday when inclement weather forced the players to head for the clubhouse.

Thomas Bjorn held the overnight lead after a similar weather-related situation unfurled on Thursday. The suspended first round was completed early Friday, with Thailand's Nirat vaulting to the top of the leaderboard at 6-under 65.

Nirat, a former monk, has completed nine second-round holes, while Dyson is through 13.

"I've been having problems with my putting for the whole of this year," said Nirat. "I tried to make sure that I got enough practice before coming to play here. It seems to be working out today. I was hoping to solve the problem this week."

Bjorn, currently tied for third place at 5-under, is part of a large contingent yet to begin the second round. Matteo Manassero and Francesco Molinari also sit at 5-under through 14 and 12 holes, respectively.

World No. 1 and Race to Dubai leader Rory McIlroy is 1-under through 12 holes, while four-time major champion and current world No. 13 Phil Mickelson has yet to tee off. The lefty carded an opening-round 73 at the Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club.

World No. 6 Adam Scott, a three-time winner at this event, is waiting to tee off after recording an even-par 71 in the opening round, while No. 10 Louis Oosthuizen is even through 12 holes.

The relentlessly ominous conditions are threatening to shorten the event for the second straight year, though no decision has been made yet.

In 2011, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano bested Juvic Pagunsan in a playoff on a Monday after the tournament was reduced to 54 holes because of poor weather.

NOTES: Play will resume on Friday at 6:30 p.m. (ET) ... Dyson is seeking his seventh career European Tour win and first of the season ... Nirat is looking for his second European Tour win and first since capturing the TCL Classic in 2007 ... Scott won this tournament in 2005, 2006 and 2010 ... McIlroy has finished in the top 10 in six of his last seven events, including three wins ... Mickelson finished tied for second last week at the WGC-HSBC Champions.
