Both Inter Milan and Napoli endured difficult weeks in the Champions League as both sides crashed out of the competition in heartbreaking fashion.

Inter conceded a stoppage-time goal against Marseille to be eliminated from the tournament on away goals, while Napoli squandered a 3-1 lead from the first leg against Chelsea by losing 4-1 in extra time at Stamford Bridge.

But neither side will have time to sulk as both return to Serie A play on Sunday in need of three points.

Inter comes into the weekend in seventh place and having claimed only one win in its last eight league games.

The Nerazzurri will host Atalanta on Sunday, and three points will be needed to keep the club in the hunt for the third and final Champions League place, with Inter currently eight points adrift.

Napoli was in a great position to reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the first time, but after faltering in London it is important for the club to get right back to its winning ways in Serie A.

Five straight wins in the league have moved Napoli to within two points of third-place Lazio, and Sunday's match at the Stadio Friuli against Udinese is a big one considering that the two sides are level on 46 points.

AC Milan opens the weekend at Parma on Saturday with the Rossoneri holding a four-point lead over second-place Juventus, which visits Fiorentina on Saturday in an effort to snap a string of four successive draws.

Lazio will try to maintain its position in third place with a victory at mid- table Catania, while last-place Cesena aims to end a nine-game winless streak when the club travels to Cagliari, which sits six points above the drop zone.

Bologna and Chievo are separated by one point in the middle of the table and tangle at the Renato Della'Ara Stadium, Lecce is six points from safety and hosts Palermo and second-from-the-bottom Novara hits the road to face a Siena side that has won its last three games.

Roma closes out the weekend on Monday at home against Genoa.
