Singapore – Hideki Matsuyama closed with a five-under 67 on Sunday to win his second straight Asian Amateur Championship and earn another trip to the Masters.
Matsuyama, 19, recorded five birdies without a bogey at Singapore Island Country Club to finish at 18-under 270 and will now be given an opportunity to build on the Silver Cup he won at Augusta National this year as the low amateur.
"To be honest, my feet started shaking, I was really nervous, but I was happy that I was able to play my game even under that tremendous pressure," Matsuyama said. "If you look at today and yesterday, I didn't shoot any bogeys so that was very encouraging for me."
Matsuyama entered the day one behind Ben Campbell, but made up that gap quickly with an opening birdie. Campbell followed with a double-bogey at the second, and Matsuyama led the rest of the way.
Matsuyama recorded birdies at Nos. 8, 9, 12 and 16 and was met with some competition by eventual runner-up Soo-min Lee. Lee posted the low round of the tournament Sunday with an eight-under 64, finishing one behind Matsuyama at 17-under overall.
Campbell shot a two-under 70 on the day and finished in third at minus-16, while Cameron Smith (67) took fourth at 15-under.
