Kellyanne Conway, one of President Donald Trump’s top advisers, is gearing up this week to move into her family’s new $7.8 million mansion in the posh Washington, D.C., neighborhood of Massachussetts Avenue Heights.
“It will be a bachelorette pad for a few weeks until the children get out of school,” Conway quipped in an exclusive interview with Mansion Global.
Conway, a longtime Republican pollster who became instrumental in Donald Trump’s victory as his campaign manager, has been renting in D.C. while her four children, ages 7 to 12, finish out the school year in New Jersey. She’s already asked decorators to tackle the children’s rooms first, before renovating the grand living spaces, where she intends to do some serious entertaining.
“First and foremost, it is my children’s home. We’re arranging for a safe, happy place for teens and tweens to congregate,” Conway said.
But she also has her eyes set on making their new home a powerful social hub for D.C. elites.
She and her husband, George Conway, a partner at a Wall Street law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, who is expected to be named to a role in the Justice Department, bought the nearly 11,500-square-foot home for $7.785 million through a private company, according to property records. The white stucco, Mediterranean-style house, built in 1927, has eight bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, a pool and an elevator.
Their new digs will make the Conways well equipped to host dinner parties and other soirees There is a catering kitchen in addition to a main family kitchen, designated staff quarters with three extra bedrooms, a wine cellar and wet bar.
“I intend to dive into social hosting,” Conway said. Though by comparison, she added, “I’m the poorest kid on the block.”
Billionaire Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross recently bought a $12 million Beaux-Arts mansion around the corner, and Ms. Conway’s already planning “power walks” with influential social swan Hilary Ross, Ross’s wife.
She’s also a stone’s throw from millionaire banker turned Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and his finance, Louise Linton—who Conway also plans to have over, she said. She’s has also learned her new home is across the street from Vernon Jordan, a business executive and close adviser to former President Bill Clinton, and nearby powerful business leader and philanthropist Adrienne Arsht.
The Conways share their new neighborhood with an array of foreign embassies, as well, including delegations from Italy, Brazil, Denmark and Sri Lanka. And while she’s not in the habit of bringing her dogs around with her, Conway said she’s promised British Ambassador Sir Kim Darroch she would stop by the embassy, a block away, with her two Welsh corgis.
She is no stranger to the city. The pollster turned powerful political adviser spent two decades of her early career working in the nation's capital. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Trinity College, now called Trinity Washington University, and a law degree from George Washington University Law School, both located in Washington.
“It’s a bit of a homecoming,” she said.
