A Secret Service agent could be facing disciplinary action after his gun, badge and flash drive were stolen in broad daylight from his personal vehicle on Monday.

“The Secret Service is confirming the report but providing no additional comment at this time,” a spokesperson told Fox News.

The incident, reported first by CNN, took place Monday around 4 p.m. ET near the agency’s headquarters in Washington.

A report filed hours later with the Metropolitan Police Department describes the agent who returned to his car and noticed his back window had been broken into. He also stated that he noticed “a bag with the listed property was taken out of the vehicle.”

The report lists the stolen items as: a black Sig Sauer handgun, an APX6000 radio, handcuffs, a USB flash drive, a black Patagonia bag and a Secret Service badge, number 1266.

There are no details about what was on the stolen flash drive.

Sources tell Fox News the agent, who isn’t named in the report, works in the Presidential Protective Division.

Fox News was also told that disciplinary action will likely be taken against the agent whose items were stolen.

The Secret Service is working with local law enforcement and said that there might be other missing items.

The incident is just the latest misstep for the Secret Service. A House Oversight and Government Reform Committee report released earlier this month revealed 143 security breaches or attempted breaches at facilities secured by the Secret Service over the past decade.

The committee report concluded that the Secret Service is an “agency in crisis” and highlighted high-profile embarrassments including a South American prostitution scandal and several security breaches involving President Obama with the White House. The report faulted both leadership failings within the agency and budget cuts imposed by Congress that have led to what the committee concluded was a "staffing crisis."
