The Republican National Committee on Wednesday revealed its dates for the 2016 party convention, which will be held in Cleveland.

The convention will begin on July 18 and continue until July 21, the RNC said in a news release.

The RNC has not held a convention in July since 2000, when the event began on July 31. In the release, RNC Chariman Reince Priebus said the "historic move" will give the party's presidential nominee more time to fundraise.

The Democratic National Committee has not yet announced its dates for the party's 2016 convention. Presumably, their event will be held after the GOP's; the incumbent party has gone second in every election cycle since 1956.
