How President Obama's policies are impacting the crisis in Iraq

Former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz Cheney said Wednesday on “The Kelly File” that the Obama administration’s policies in Iraq have left the country in disarray, adding that Obama “basically walked away” from the country.

The former vice president responded to criticism that the Bush administration is actually responsible for the current crisis in Iraq, saying the U.S. went into the country for “very good reasons.”

“I think when we left office we had a situation in Iraq which was very positive,” Cheney said. “We made major progress …What happened was Barack Obama came to office and instead of negotiating a stay-behind agreement, he basically walked away from it.”

The father-daughter duo on Tuesday penned a Wall Street Journal op-ed titled “The Collapsing Obama Doctrine.” They assert Obama’s policies before and after the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq are increasing the threat of emboldened jihadists, who are far from decimated as the administration has claimed.

Liz Cheney, the former the deputy assistant secretary of state for near eastern affairs, said she believes Obama is a “dangerous president” because of his foreign policy decisions.

“I think that he is unique in terms of a president who is sitting in the Oval Office who has made very clear that his desire is to weaken the nation,” she said.
