On Sunday's #Mediabuzz 11 ET:
Mary Katharine Ham said that she would “caution anyone else” who tries replicating Donald Trump’s practice of flooding the zone with so much news as to overwhelm the media and “dominate” coverage because it’s “part of his particular political magic,” and that “heads of state have learned to work with Donald Trump and his personality better than the media in many cases” after the U.S. and U.K agreed on a trade deal. She also said that “the Pope is bigger than American politics,” so despite the first American Pope’s past social media posts criticizing Trump and Vance, the media should “keep a global eye on this instead of just slamming people into one bucket or another.”
Kevin Walling said that the White House should “do a better job … of connecting on the day-to-day realistic,” like visiting food stores, while the president inundates the media with a flurry of topics like floating tariffs on movies made abroad, reopening Alcatraz, and banning transgender people in the military. He also said that U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has “navigated Trump round two probably better than any head of state” after the U.K. became the first country to strike a trade deal with the U.S. since Trump announced new reciprocal tariffs.
State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said that the president, the vice president, and the secretary of state comprise a “powerful team” that engaged in conversations to achieve a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in what she called “the epitome of diplomacy,” and Donald Trump is “still optimistic” about Russia and Ukraine, where she says “the status quo is over.” She also said that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is reviewing the cases of pro-Palestinian Columbia University protesters who are “expected to be here to learn, not to take over buildings,” and that her new job at the State Department involves her speaking “everything but” her opinion, after “almost a quarter of a century” speaking her opinion on Fox.
Mark Halperin said that his new “2Way” platform is “a whole different kind of media” that incorporates a “participatory” aspect which “builds authentic community around conversations” on things like politics, sports, and music. He also said that Biden is emerging now, appearing on ABC’s “The View” in his first live TV interview since leaving office, because, for the Biden family, their “ability to make a lot of money was predicated on their dad, their brother, being a senator, a vice president, a presidential candidate and a president,” and now “the spigot has shut down.”
