Officials say nearly 90 people at a private university in western New York have fallen ill with symptoms linked to norovirus.
The University of Rochester says one student is hospitalized in stable condition with a confirmed case of norovirus and 87 other people show symptoms, including nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Most of the cases are students, though a food service worker and some employees also experienced symptoms.
The source of the outbreak hasn't been identified. There are no plans to cancel classes.
Officials are advising students and staff to wash their hands to prevent spreading the virus. The virus is spread from contaminated food or water by touching contaminated surfaces.
The effects of norovirus tend to last 24 to 48 hours.
The university has more than 9,000 students.
