A 26-year-old UK woman has given birth twice in eight months – and the babies are not twins, The Daily Telegraph reported.
Claire Ormrod of Wales was pregnant with Alice, when she had an emergency caesarean section at just 25 weeks on December 6, 2011. Alice weighed 1 pound, 3 ounces, and doctors didn’t think she would survive.
But, Alice did survive, and seven weeks later – despite being on the birth control pill, Ormrod became pregnant again.
In September 2012, son Gareth was born early also, at 29 weeks. He weighed 2 pounds.
“I was absolutely petrified when I found out I was pregnant again,” Ormrod told the Telegraph. “My (doctor) said I should have a termination; he said it would end up killing me and the baby, and that it wouldn’t be fair to put me through it. But I said, no, straight out."
Ormrod has three older children, who were also born in spite of “precautions,” the Telegraph reported.
Alice has brain damage on the left side of her brain, and she suffers from necrotizing enterocolitis, which caused a neonatal bowel obstruction. However, doctors won’t know the extent of Alice’s brain damage until she’s older.
