Shania Twain is less than thrilled with the airplay that women in country music are currently getting on radio stations.
The 54-year-old icon, speaking to USA Today, explained how she hopes that will soon change, with women artists being heard more evenly on the platform.
“There's a lot of good female talent out there, and they've been more vocal about the resistance at radio to include them more equally in airplay,” Twain told the outlet.

“I'm hoping that does start to make a change because there are many female artists with strong songs that belong in the Top 40 on country radio that are just not there," she added.
The "That Don't Impress Me Much" songstress, who is set to perform at the American Music Awards on Sunday, echoed similar sentiments made by other artists in the industry, including Miranda Lambert and Jennifer Nettles.
Nettles, 45, notably walked the CMA Awards red carpet last week donning a cape with powerful messages that read: "Play our f--kin records. Please & Thank You" and “Equal Play."

In addition to more airplay for women artists, Twain further explained that radio has been "very ageist as well."
“I don't hear Reba [McEntire] on the radio anymore; I don't hear Patty Loveless on the radio anymore. I don't hear Shania Twain on the radio anymore in country! So that's got to change, too," Twain noted.
"Thankfully with technology, we do have other outlets of getting our music out there and radio isn't the end all be all of somebody's success today," she continued. "But it's very frustrating and it's a disservice not only to the artist, but to the public, that they can't turn on the radio and hear all the best music that's being made right now."
Twain also shared her thoughts on the dispute between Taylor Swift and Big Machine Label Group after it was alleged that Swift's former label initially was preventing the "Lover" singer from performing her earlier hit records at the AMAs.

"I don't know a lot about the details of that, but I'm a big supporter of Taylor," Twain said. "I think she's just incredibly brilliant. I haven't had a chance to talk to her about it and I don't really know where everybody is coming from, but I'll always support the artist and their access to their own music.
"It seems a bit ridiculous to not have that."
The American Music Awards airs this Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
