Loretta Lynn was forced to cancel her Labor Day weekend appearance at her ranch in Tennessee after suffering a fall earlier in the week.
The 84-year-old country icon was scheduled to perform with her sister, Crystal Gayle, on Saturday at her ranch in Hurricane Mills. Lynn performs a special Labor Day show at the ranch every year, but this year when fans showed up, they were informed at the gate that the legendary singer-songwriter had been injured in a fall earlier in the week and would be unable to perform, according to a number of fan posts to Lynn’s Facebook page.
Rare Country reports that Gayle went on with the show in her sister’s stead, and Lynn’s twin daughters, Peggy and Patsy, also performed several of their mother’s hits for the crowd. Gayle read a letter from Lynn to her fans, saying, “I thank you all for coming, and I’m sorry I can’t be there with you. I’ve fallen, and I can’t get up. I injured my chest and can’t get a deep enough breath to sing, but I’ll update you Monday after I see the doctor.”

According to Rare, Lynn was joking about not being able to get up, since she had had a pain shot. She has not yet commented on her condition via social media or her official website. The event calendar on her site lists her next scheduled concert on Sept. 9 in Kentucky.
