Halle Berry and her husband of two years, Olivier Martinez, have filed for divorce.
The couple issued a joint statement to FOX411.
"It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce,” the couple said. “We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life, and we hope that you respect our, and most importantly our children's privacy, as we go through this difficult period."
Berry cited irreconcilable differences in her filing, and the pair had a prenuptial agreement in place.
Only last week, the Oscar-winning actress and her husband were hit with a $5 million lawsuit by a Los Angeles Airport employee saying the French actor shoved him with a child’s seat, knocking him to the ground. The incident allegedly happened nine months ago.
The employee's account is reminiscent of a series of supposed outbursts by Martinez, like when he got into a violent altercation with Berry’s ex and the father of her child, Gabriel Aubry.
Martinez and Berry are parents to a 2-year-old son, Maceo. Berry has a daughter with Aubry, Nahla.
