The Dixie Chicks one of the best-selling U.S. female groups of all time are back and ready to take the stage again for a proper tour, nearly a decade after the release of their last all-original album, "Take the Long Way (2006)."
Outspoken frontwoman Natalie Maines and sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Robison have announced that they will embark on a European tour in 2016, following up on their recent six-date spring European tour, which began in late April 2015.
The Chicks will begin the run in Amsterdam and continue on to the U.K. to play arenas in Birmingham, Manchester, London, Glasgow and Dublin. Fans will remember that it was in London in 2003 where the group famously disowned then-president Bush as one of their own, telling the crowd: "We don’t want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.”
That sparked a mass political controversy that plagued the trio in the years that followed, as many American radio stations ceased playing their tunes in protest.
Of course, the Dixie Chicks remain one of the most notable in the history of country music. "Take the Long Way" earned the group several Grammy awards. Does the new European tour mean a fresh start for the band? New music, perhaps? A U.S. tour to come? Fans will have to wait and see. Ticket information can be found here.
