'Modern Family's' Ariel Winter is finally emancipated

Ariel Winter is finally an emancipated minor after years of drama with her estranged mother.

“I’m really lucky I have an amazing support system and lovely people in my life who have given me the support and guidance to have been given this wonderful opportunity,” the 17-year-old “Modern Family” star wrote on Twitter on Friday.

She also gave a special shoutout to her sister, Shanelle Gray, who became Winter’s guardian in 2012 after the courts found evidence her mom Chrisoula Workman was emotionally abusing the actress. Winter acknowledged her father, too, who was put in charge of her finances in 2014.

“I really couldn’t have done it without them,” she continued. “Thank you to all of my family, friends, and fans who have supported me through all of my endeavors in life, and have encouraged me. Thank you for making my life so special! I can’t wait to embark on my new adventures.”
