Ashton Kutcher got a head start on his Mother’s Day gift for his mom, Diane.
Kutcher, with a little help from Houzz.com, renovated the basement of his childhood home in Homestead, Iowa, in roughly a month’s time.
His stepfather, Mark, whom he helped build the house 23 years ago, also lent a helping hand during the process of turning the couple’s John Wayne museum into a cozy living space that displayed Diane’s antiques and canned salsas.
“It’s just awesome. Awesome,” Diane said tearfully after discovering her updated basement. “I’m going to be blubbering for months.”
“My mom has been like the greatest influence in my life, and anything I can do to say thank you is the right thing to do,” added the 37-year-old.
“Being able to do this for my mom is like a lifelong dream,” Kutcher said of the surprise gift. “You grow up and you have a good parent. And I don’t know that there is anything that I could ever do that really says thank you, but trying sure feels good.”
As revealed in the online episode, Diane went away to help Kutcher and Mila Kunis with newborn daughter Wyatt Isabelle while renovations took place at her house.
