Nick Cannon has come under fire for a new Instagram photo he shared, showing him dressed in “white face.”

The image, meant to promote his controversially titled new album “White People Party Music,” shows the African-American TV host dressed as a white person, with the caption “It's official... I'm White!!!”

The photo has sparked controversy, partially because of the hashtags Cannon included after his post. “#WHITEPEOPLEPARTYMUSIC… #GoodCredit #DogKissing #BeerPong #FarmersMarkets #FistPumping #CreamCheeseEating #RacialDraft ‘Bro I got drafted!!’” he wrote.

Users immediately began commenting on the image, charging that Cannon’s post was racist.

“This is so f--king offensive. What if Britney spears made herself black and put a pic up that says ‘it's official.. IM BLACK,’” one user wrote.

Another was less harsh but shared a similar sentiment. “Don't get me wrong I think it's hilarious but it's just a double standard.”

Cannon did not appear to take the criticism too seriously. He tweeted, “Damn I didn't know it was going to be this hard being White! ... I'm exhausted with all this ‘privilege’ LOL #WhitePeopleProblems”

The husband of Mariah Carey also seemed impressed by the attention he was receiving for the image writing, “Hold up… What the f#ck is ‘White Face’??? Did I just create a new term??? Nice!!! LOL”

On Monday, the “America’s Got Talent” host spoke with Us Weekly about his controversial album title.

"You go to a party and white people are having more fun than anybody," Cannon told Us. "They know how to have a good time! I could have named the album ‘Purple People Party Music’ and you'd still get the same album, but it was just one of those things. You know, you deal with things like race, and people get uptight, so why not?"

Last Halloween, Julianne Hough experienced major backlash when she donned black face for her costume as an “Orange is the New Black” character. She later apologized for the move, saying it was "never (her) intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way."

A rep for Cannon did not immediately return FOX411’s request for comment.
