LOS ANGELES – Amanda Bynes, who is being treated for severe mental illness, has left the confines of the UCLA Medical Center, where she was being held under a psychiatric hold, which doctors requested due to her concerning state of wellbeing.
In a statement issued to FOX411 on Monday by a legal representative for Bynes’ parents, it was confirmed that mom, Lynn Bynes, decided to withdraw her Petition for Conservatorship of her daughter in the probate courts and supported the decision a few weeks ago to move the troubled actress to a Malibu-based rehab facility.
“Currently, upon recommendation by the skilled healthcare professionals at UCLA Medical Center, Amanda is receiving specialized treatment in a private facility outside of Los Angeles. Amanda is making great strides towards recovery,” the statement explained. “The entire Bynes family would like to ask that they be given some measure of privacy so they can focus on Amanda’s health and well-being. The Bynes family would also like to thank all of Amanda’s supporters and well-wishers for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
It has widely been reported that Bynes is seeking treatment at ritzy Malibu-based rehab The Canyons, however a closely connected inside source insisted that the former child star is at an entirely different rehab facility in the same area, one with a strong focus on mental health.
“UCLA psych ward is not a long-term treatment option, so it is no surprise that Amanda has relocated,” the insider said. “She is under the care of one of the best psychiatric doctors in the state and is doing really well.”
We’re told Bynes will remain in rehab for at least 90 days and depending on her progress will transition to a more freedom-orientated treatment environment.
A legal representative for Bynes and Bynes’ parents did not immediately respond to a request for further comment with regards to her rehab location or type of treatment.
