Jesse James and tattoo artist Kat Von D have called off their engagement, according to a report from People magazine.
James, 42, who hooked up with Von D following his highly-publicized split from Sandra Bullock, told People he is “so sad because I really love her. The distance between us was just too much.”
The couple announced their engagement in January and gushed about planning a wedding this summer.

But with Von D in Los Angeles and James in Austin, Texas, the couple just couldn’t seem to make it work.
Von D also confirmed the split via her Twitter page, writing “I am no longer w Jesse and out of respect for him, his family and myself, that’s all the info I’d like to share. Thanks for respecting that.”
Despite his alleged affairs leading to the collapse of his marriage with Bullock, James said 2010 was the best year of his life because of his relationship with Von D.
“I fell in love with my best friend. An amazing woman who stood behind me when the world turned their backs,” he told People at the time.
